Why Use Food Cards?
Question Mark

Good question.

There are four primary reasons we created Food Cards. Each one is an aspect of the challenges we face when trying to make choices about what food to eat or what to feed to others members of our household.

What's so hard about communicating about food choices?

Actually, a lot.

We make a bunch of assumptions about what others in our household actually want to eat. We expect other to guess what we're thinking. Some people go so far as to believe that "if you really love me you'd know what I want to eat!"

We don't believe this works. We've seen too many instances where poor communication around food leads to feelings of rejection, incompetance, lack of caring and understanding. This is almost always a mistake and doesn't represent reality.

Using Food Cards with your other members of your family can help your communication about food choices be more effective and lead to greater satisfaction with the food that is eaten and the relationships involved.

What does incremental improvement mean?

Have you ever wished that your kids would eat less sugar and more protein?

Have you ever wished that you would eat an apple rather than chips for a snack?

Do you ever make bold statements like "I'm never going to eat cookies again!" - only to find yourself eating a whole box of cookies a day later?

Incremental improvement is a sustainable way to change your habits. One small step at a time. If you're able to do this consistently, it doesn't take that long to see real differences in cummulitave effects of your choices. Think of incremental improvement as the opposite of quitting something cold-turkey.

Why does this matter?

We all have intentions that we struggle to live up to. It may be exercising, doing house maintenance, saving money or changing our eating habits.

We leave the home improvement store or doctor's office with the best intentions to make change happen. Maybe we succeed for a preiod of time, but all too often we revert back to our old ways.

Food Cards can help you make food choices that are in alignment with your intentions related to food by helping you make decisions ahead of time and then reminding you of those intentions when it's time to make a choice.

Doing this feels good. It feels really good.

Are you looking for fewer reasons to hand your phone to your kid?

Does touching and holding something provide a different impact compared to fidgeting with your phone and getting overwhelmed?

Are you able to think more clearly when you're able to lay things out in front of you and move things around?

For us, the answer to these questions is Yes! That's why we make Food Cards - physical items that you can touch, pass around to someone else and arrange into plans of various sorts.
